    Description

    If you're making over 400 hp and need to step up from a tired four-speed, the TREMEC TKX solves the problem with ground-up aftermarket engineering wrapped in a slim-profile case that fits classic GM tunnels without cutting. This GM-pattern TKX (TCET17722) features the close-ratio 2.87 first-gear set with 0.81 overdrive -- ideal for street rods, trucks, and muscle cars where strong acceleration matters as much as relaxed highway cruising.

    TREMEC designed the TKX from scratch specifically for the aftermarket, not as a hand-me-down from OE applications. The compact end-loaded architecture places all internals in a streamlined case that clears tight transmission tunnels while delivering increased structural rigidity over side-loaded designs. Superior shift quality comes from multi-cone synchronizers with hybrid sintered carbon/bronze rings, enabling confident 7,500 RPM shifts. The internal 3-rail shift system uses steel shift forks for durability, while the gear layout is optimized to control stress levels and minimize NVH.

    Durability is engineered in at every level: all gears and shafts are machined from ASTM 4615 special-grade steel, supported by caged needle bearings in all gear positions and tapered roller bearings on the input, output, and countershaft. Oversized gear widths increase torque capacity and service life. Gaskets seal all mating surfaces to eliminate leaks and simplify installation. The rear mainshaft support bushing is relocated closer to the gearbox for improved shaft support.

    This transmission bolts directly to GM Muncie 3- and 4-speed bellhousings. The front shifter position locates the stick 12.68 inches from the bellhousing face with no offset -- perfect for builds requiring a forward stick location. The transmission ships with built-in reverse light and cruise control safety switches, plus dual speedometer outputs (mechanical Ford 7-tooth gear adaptable to GM applications, and OSS two-wire analog sensor). Made in the USA.
