Description

Transform your '66-'67 Chevy II from a basic four-speed to a modern five-speed overdrive with MDL's comprehensive TKX conversion package. The TREMEC TKX was designed from the ground up specifically for the aftermarket, addressing the shift quality and high-RPM limitations of earlier transmissions while delivering 600 lb-ft of torque capacity. The single overdrive ratio reduces highway RPMs, improves fuel economy, and - more importantly - increases smiles per mile.

TREMEC's engineering team completely redesigned the TKX case to reduce its envelope, presenting a much cleaner, smoother, and shorter leading end that minimizes floor pan modifications. The three-piece ribbed aluminum housing - main case, intermediate plate, and rear extension - provides outstanding structural stiffness while optimizing noise, vibration, and harshness characteristics. Gaskets at all flanges simplify installation and eliminate fluid leaks common in older designs.

The heart of this package is the advanced synchronizer technology. Multi-cone, high-performance strut-type synchronizers with hybrid sintered bronze and carbon rings eliminate the notchy feel of earlier five-speeds and allow clean shifts at up to 7,500 RPM. All gears and shafts are machined from ASTM 4615 special-grade steel, while tapered roller bearings on input, output, and counter shafts reduce noise and improve durability. The included high-performance short-throw billet aluminum shifter isolates road noise while delivering clean, crisp shifts.

MDL's guided package configurator walks you through every component selection - from transmission gear ratios and hardware kits to flywheels, clutch sets, shifters, and crossmembers. Our technical team provides concierge-level support to ensure proper component matching for your specific small block combination and performance goals. While the TKX's compact design minimizes modifications compared to earlier five-speeds, some tunnel adjustments may be required for optimal fitment in your '66-'67 Chevy II.
