Description

The factory 4-speed in your '70-'76 Corvette served its purpose decades ago, but modern LS power demands a modern gearbox. This TREMEC TKX conversion package delivers exactly that: a 600 lb-ft-rated five-speed with single overdrive, engineered from the ground up for aftermarket applications. Highway cruising finally becomes enjoyable with fifth-gear overdrive dropping engine RPM, improving fuel efficiency, and extending powertrain life without sacrificing the aggressive launch feel your LS deserves.

TREMEC designed the TKX with a completely new end-loaded architecture that produces the slimmest 5-speed on the market. The three-piece ribbed aluminum case -- main housing, intermediate plate, and rear extension -- delivers outstanding structural rigidity that translates directly into crisp, precise shifts even at 7,500 RPM. Inside, sintered carbon/bronze hybrid synchronizers with non-leading tooth profiles eliminate the balky, notched feel that plagued earlier transmissions at high engine speeds. All gears and shafts are machined from ASTM 4615 special-grade steel, with wide gear widths and a single-piece countershaft maximizing torque capacity.

This guided package system walks you through every component selection: transmission gear ratio, bellhousing type (hydraulic or mechanical release), flywheel, clutch matched to your power level, crossmember, transmission mount, speedometer adapters, driveshaft, and fluid. The TKX bolts directly to GM Muncie-pattern bellhousings, and the side-shift configuration positions the lever through the factory location to retain OEM appearance. Note: fresh body-to-frame mounts are recommended to maintain proper transmission-to-body clearance.

Recommended lubricants include TREMEC HP-MTF, Dexron III, GM Synchromesh, Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF, or Amsoil ATF. Fluid capacity is 2.7 quarts. Made in the USA with lifetime technical support from MDL included.
