Description
When you swap a TREMEC T56, T56 Magnum, or TR6060 into a classic or performance build, you lose the factory computer's ability to control the reverse lockout solenoid. Without proper control, the transmission becomes prone to inadvertent grinding into reverse gear while attempting to shift into 5th - a common problem since these gears are located very close to each other in the shift pattern. Manual workarounds like wiring to the brake light switch create their own problems: you can step on the brake at highway speed and still accidentally engage reverse.
This Reverse Lockout Control Module solves the problem with intelligent speed-based control. The heart of this module is a microprocessor that continuously monitors vehicle speed through the VSS signal. At low vehicle speeds, the reverse lockout solenoid is energized, retracting the blocking pin and allowing you to shift smoothly into reverse. Above approximately 5 MPH, the module de-energizes the solenoid, locking out reverse gear access and preventing costly transmission damage from an accidental shift. This creates factory-like operation without the need for an OEM PCM or ECM.
The six-wire harness simplifies installation with dedicated circuits: two wires for switched power and ground, two wires for VSS signal input from the transmission speed sensor, and two wires for solenoid output. The integrated inline fuse protects the circuit. While the module features weather-resistant construction, mounting inside the vehicle interior is recommended for maximum longevity. The system requires no special programming or calibration - wire it up and it works.
