Description
TREMEC T56 Magnum, TKX, and TKO transmissions all use a Ford-style mechanical speedometer drive, which creates a compatibility problem for GM muscle cars and hot rods equipped with traditional GM speedometers and 7/8" threaded cables. Rather than sourcing an expensive custom cable, this adapter assembly converts the Ford slip-in driven gear interface to accept a standard GM threaded speedometer cable directly.
The adapter features a double O-ring seal at the transmission case opening combined with an internal seal where the cable attaches. This dual-seal design addresses a common complaint with lesser adapters that allow transmission fluid to leak through the cable attachment point. Steel construction ensures the drive spindle maintains accuracy and durability under demanding conditions.
Installation is straightforward: the adapter inserts into the transmission's speedometer housing where the driven gear normally sits, and your existing GM speedometer cable threads onto the adapter's external 7/8" fitting. This assembly fits Ford T5, all 3550/TKO variants, Ford T56 transmissions with cable drive, and all TREMEC Magnum six-speed transmissions. Note that speedometer driven gears and retaining clips are sold separately and must be matched to your tire size and rear axle ratio for accurate speedometer readings. Made internationally.
