Description
When you swap transmissions, change rear end gears, or install taller tires, your speedometer stops telling the truth. The factory speedo gearing was calibrated for the original drivetrain combination—change one variable and the readings go south. This 7-tooth speedometer drive gear lets you recalibrate your mechanical speedometer for your actual setup, so the dash matches reality.
The drive gear is the smaller of the two speedometer gears and mounts directly on the transmission main shaft inside the tailhousing. It meshes with the larger driven gear (which threads into the speedometer cable housing on the outside of the case). The 7-tooth count is the multiplication factor that, combined with the correct driven gear, produces an accurate speedometer signal for your specific tire diameter and rear axle ratio. The yellow color is standard industry coding for the 7-tooth configuration, making quick identification easy during builds or rebuilds.
This drive gear fits all Ford T5 transmissions. Unlike the externally accessible driven gear, the drive gear requires tailhousing removal or transmission disassembly to replace—making a transmission swap, rebuild, or bench service the ideal time to upgrade to the correct tooth count for your drivetrain combination.
