Description
Swapping a TREMEC TKO or TKX five-speed into your C3 Corvette changes the game, but the factory driveshaft won't work. The TKO and TKX transmissions feature a 31-spline output shaft that requires a matching slip yoke, and the tunnel clearance constraints of the '68-'82 Corvette chassis demand a purpose-built solution. This custom steel driveshaft delivers the proper interface between your modern transmission and the factory differential while maintaining the tight clearances the C3 tunnel requires.
The 2.0" DOM (Drawn Over Mandrel) seamless steel tube provides the foundation for this driveshaft. DOM tubing is cold-drawn through a precision mandrel, producing uniform wall thickness, tighter tolerances, and superior concentricity compared to standard ERW tubing. The 0.120" wall thickness delivers 15% greater strength than OEM specifications while keeping the outside diameter compact for proper tunnel clearance. The seamless construction also eliminates the weld seam that can affect balance and require alignment with yoke ears.
At the transmission end, a forged steel 1310 series slip yoke features the 31-spline pattern that matches both TKO and TKX output shafts. Removable caps allow for U-joint service without dropping the entire driveshaft. At the rear, the heavy-duty 1330 series U-joint provides a 3.625" overall width with 1.062" cap diameter, stepping up from the lighter-duty 1310 series to handle the 600 lb-ft torque capacity of modern TREMEC transmissions.
Each driveshaft is custom-built to your specific measurements, professionally high-speed balanced, and finished in black paint for corrosion resistance. Ordering requires completing a driveshaft build sheet with measurements from your finished vehicle to ensure proper length and driveline angles. Made in the USA by Inland Empire.
