Description
When you swap in a 5-speed transmission or change rear gear ratios, your factory speedometer gear no longer delivers accurate readings. The transmission's final drive ratio doesn't match what the original equipment speedometer expects, resulting in a speedo that reads too fast or too slow. This genuine TREMEC 7-tooth drive gear corrects that problem by providing the proper gear ratio to restore accurate speedometer calibration in Ford T5 applications.
The drive gear mounts directly on the T5's 28-spline main shaft inside the tail housing and meshes with a driven gear that spins the speedometer cable. Getting the right drive/driven gear combination depends on four variables: drive gear tooth count, driven gear tooth count, tire diameter, and rear axle ratio. The 7-tooth configuration is typically required when running 4.10 or steeper rear gears, making it essential for modified street and performance Ford builds.
The included metal retaining clip locks the gear securely in position on the main shaft, preventing migration that could cause speedometer errors or internal damage. Yellow color-coding allows quick visual identification of the tooth count without disassembly, which is critical since the spiral-cut teeth make counting difficult when installed.
This gear is engineered exclusively for Ford applications with 28-spline main shafts. It will not work with GM Camaro or S-10 T5 transmissions that use 27-spline configurations. Compatible with Borg Warner T5, TREMEC T5, T45, Ford T56, and MDL tail housings for Ford Mustang and similar Ford applications.
