This all-new 5-speed was designed, tested, and built specifically for the aftermarket - not adapted from OEM production. The result is a transmission purpose-built for Chevelles, GTOs, Cutlasses, Novas, Camaros, and other GM A-bodies with a compact, end-loaded case design that clears most factory transmission tunnels without modifications.
The TCET17805 gear set pairs a 2.87 first gear for strong, manageable launches with a deep 0.68 overdrive that significantly reduces highway RPM for improved fuel economy and reduced engine wear. All gears and shafts are manufactured from ASTM 4615 special grade steel, while the robust internal three-rail shift system with steel shift forks ensures precise engagement through all five gears. Superior shift-ability comes from multi-cone synchronizers and hybrid synchronizer rings made of sintered bronze and carbon, allowing confident shifts at engine speeds up to 7,500 RPM.
TREMEC engineers optimized the TKX's three-piece ribbed aluminum housing for structural stiffness while minimizing noise, vibration, and harshness. Tapered roller bearings on the input, output, and counter shafts reduce noise and improve durability, while caged needle bearings support all gear positions to reduce end play. Oversized gear widths increase gear life and torque capacity, and gaskets at all flanges eliminate fluid leaks and simplify installation.
The TKX bolts directly to standard GM Muncie bellhousings, making it a direct replacement for 3-speed and 4-speed Muncie transmissions. The 26-spline input shaft requires a matching clutch disc, while the 31-spline output shaft provides increased strength for high-torque applications. Includes a high-performance short-throw billet aluminum shifter that isolates road noise while delivering clean, crisp shifts.
