Description
Mechanical clutch linkage geometry is unforgiving. When your Ford setup leaves the clutch lever sitting too low, the result is inadequate release travel, poor engagement feel, and a pedal that never quite does what it should. This extended-height throwout bearing assembly adds 0.200 inches to the bearing face, repositioning the contact point to restore proper linkage geometry without tearing apart your entire release system.
The problem shows up most often with Ford cable-actuated pressure plates, where the release lever height runs lower than traditional configurations. Standard bearings leave you short on travel and fighting the pedal. This bearing's extended height makes up the difference, bringing the release point back into the window where mechanical linkage actually works as designed.
The hardened fork contact surface is critical here. Mechanical linkage puts constant load on the bearing face through the clutch fork, and a soft surface wears out fast under those conditions. The hardened contact area resists the grooving and galling that kills standard bearings in mechanical release applications.
