Description
The TREMEC T-56 Magnum eliminates the compromise between strength and driveability that plagued earlier 6-speed conversions. Introduced in 2009 as the long-awaited replacement for the original T-56, the Magnum combined the best of TREMEC's OEM TR-6060 design with the most popular features of their TKO 5-speed. Known in OEM form as the TR-6060, this is the same transmission architecture found in factory supercars including the Dodge Challenger and Viper, and the Chevrolet Camaro - now available for your GM-powered build.
The TUET16885 wide-ratio gear set delivers a 2.97:1 first gear for aggressive launches paired with closely-spaced 5th (0.80:1) and 6th (0.63:1) overdrives for comfortable highway cruising at lower RPMs. This ratio spread makes the wide-ratio Magnum ideal for street machines, restomods, and pro-tourers where you want strong off-the-line acceleration without screaming RPMs at 70 mph.
Engineering improvements over the original T-56 are substantial. Gear face widths have been significantly increased, and 2-piece laser-beam welded gear construction allows greater control of tooth angles, pitch, and alignment. The bolstered one-piece countershaft resists distortion, while redesigned shift forks with permanently mounted shift links eliminate the wear and float that caused incomplete shifts in earlier designs. Spring-loaded ball-type inserts replace the stamped-steel shift keys of previous generations, delivering short, smooth shifts without the notchy feel.
The Magnum works with GM small block, big block, and LS engines when paired with the correct bellhousing. Clutch release provisions are modeled after the T-56 in 1998-2002 Camaros and Firebirds, designed for use with hydraulic throwout bearings. Multiple shift stub relocation kits are available for use with factory 4-speed consoles.
