Description

The Tilton ST-246 was engineered from the ground up as a true performance twin-disc clutch - not an OEM-type stamped steel pressure plate with a floater tacked on as an afterthought. This is race-derived technology built for the street, drawing on Tilton's nearly 50 years of championship-winning experience in F1, NASCAR, IMSA, IndyCar, and Formula Drift.
The engineering details set the ST-246 apart. The precision-machined aluminum clutch cover shares technology with Tilton's OT-Series racing clutches, delivering higher strength, better stiffness, and superior dynamic balance compared to stamped steel competitors. The high-mass pressure plate and floater plate are machined from the same proprietary materials used in Tilton's racing clutches, providing exceptional heat capacity and warp resistance. That floater plate runs twice the thickness of typical twin-disc setups - this eliminates gear chatter and provides dramatically better heat dissipation under hard use.
This specific kit features solid-hub cerametallic discs rated for 1,250 lb-ft of torque, delivering the positive, precise engagement characteristics needed for street/strip applications. The billet chromoly steel flywheel includes an integrated 168-tooth ring gear and precision register system that provides optimal clutch-to-flywheel balance - no loose-fitting bolts or dowels like stamped steel units. Heavy-duty straps connect the plates to the cover, minimizing noise while ensuring fast, clean releases between shifts.
Designed for Chevy LSA, LSX, LT1, and LT4 engines with 8-bolt crank flange patterns. Compatible with TREMEC T56, TKO, TKX, and Magnum transmissions via the 26-spline x 1-1/8" input shaft. This assembly does not include a pilot bearing or throwout bearing - it can be used with most OEM release bearings, or pair it with a Tilton 6000-Series hydraulic release bearing for optimal performance.
