Unlike the aftermarket clutches that simply bolt a floater to an OEM-style stamped plate, Tilton engineered this system from the ground up as a purpose-built twin-disc clutch using nearly five decades of racing clutch expertise.
The precision-machined aluminum cover shares technology from Tilton's championship-winning OT-Series racing clutches, delivering superior stiffness and dynamic balance compared to stamped steel alternatives. The floater plate is the real differentiator here - at twice the thickness of typical twin-disc units, it enables the solid hub design that achieves 1,250 lb-ft capacity while eliminating the gear chatter common to other high-capacity clutches. The high-mass pressure plate and floater are machined from the same proprietary materials used in Tilton's racing clutches, providing exceptional heat capacity and warp resistance.
Heavy-duty straps connect the pressure plate and floater to the cover, minimizing operational noise and ensuring consistent, clean release characteristics. The billet chromoly flywheel features a precision register that locates the clutch assembly for optimal balance - a significant improvement over the loose-fitting bolts and dowels found on stamped steel clutch assemblies. This kit requires the included Tilton 6100-Series Hydraulic Release Bearing as the OEM throwout bearing will not provide proper clearance with the ST-246 clutch. The hydraulic bearing comes factory-preset for correct height and connects directly to your stock clutch line without modification. Designed specifically for 2011-2017 Ford Mustang GT models with MT-82 transmissions and the Ford Modular V8 engine.
