Give your Ford Y-Block the clutch it deserves. The Y-Block was Ford's first overhead valve V8, powering everything from '54-'64 Fords and Mercurys to the iconic first-generation Thunderbird. Finding a quality clutch kit engineered specifically for this classic powerplant—rather than a generic assembly cobbled together from mismatched parts—has always been a challenge. The MDL Superior Clutch Kit solves that problem with purpose-built components that deliver consistent engagement, reliable holding power, and the durability these vintage V8s demand.
Every Superior clutch disk is hand-built in MDL's facility using Kevlar/Kevlar friction facings that provide excellent heat resistance without the grabby, on-off engagement characteristics of full-ceramic setups. The result is smooth, progressive pedal feel with 400 ft-lb of holding capacity—ideal for modified Y-Blocks making serious power while maintaining streetable manners. The 10-spline 1-1/16" hub matches Y-Block transmission input shafts precisely, and the sprung hub design absorbs drivetrain shock that can damage vintage components.
The 11" Long pattern diaphragm pressure plate with 3-3/8" diaphragm provides the correct bolt pattern and clamping characteristics for Y-Block bellhousing configurations. This kit includes the mechanical throwout bearing required for standard Y-Block clutch linkage, plus a Ford Flathead pilot bearing that ensures proper crankshaft-to-transmission alignment. Note: Ford trucks require the MD-406-16515 throwout bearing (sold separately).
Each assembly undergoes double-inspection before shipping to ensure flawless operation right out of the box. Compatible with Ford Y-Block 239, 256, 272, 292, and 312 cubic inch engines in passenger cars with mechanical clutch linkage.
