    Description

    The Sunbeam Tiger's original Ford Toploader was tough for its time, but today's power levels demand more. The problem with dropping a modern 5-speed into a Tiger has always been fitment: wrong shifter position, tunnel clearance issues, and compromised packaging. MDL has solved all of it. This MDL-enhanced TREMEC TKX has been hand-machined at our Caldwell, Idaho facility to clear the Tiger's notoriously tight transmission tunnel without any cutting or floor modifications. The shifter is offset to place it in the Tiger's correct cockpit location, so you can use your original shift knob or ball and nobody will know there's a TKX underneath.

    The TREMEC TKX delivers 600 lb-ft of torque capacity and shifts at 7,500 RPM - capabilities the Toploader simply cannot match. All gears and shafts are made from special grade steel (ASTM 4615) for increased torque carrying capacity, while tapered roller bearings on input, output, and counter shafts reduce noise and improve durability. The robust internal 3-rail shift system with steel shift forks delivers precision engagement under power. The close-ratio gearset (3.27 first, 0.72 overdrive) provides aggressive launches with highway-friendly cruising RPM - a genuine overdrive that the original 4-speed never offered.

    TREMEC's end-loading design creates a slimmer case with fewer seams and greater structural rigidity than top-loaded alternatives. The 10-spline input shaft bolts directly to Ford Toploader-pattern bellhousings, maintaining your existing clutch system compatibility. Every unit is hand-prepared at MDL to ensure quality and precision - this is an upgraded transmission, not just a bolted-on shifter. Not available through TREMEC.
