    Description

    Early Falcon owners and hot rod builders face a common problem: standard T5 shifter placement lands behind the seat or requires cutting through the floor support. MDL engineered this front shift T5 specifically to eliminate that headache. The proprietary dual-socket tail housing moves the shifter 6 inches forward compared to a standard T5 - the same forward location used in S-10 Chevy pickup applications. For 1960-1965 Falcon and Comet owners, this puts the shifter at exactly 13.00” from the front of the main case, allowing installation without modifying the floor support structure.

    This isn't just a relocated shifter bolted to a stock transmission. MDL's Super-Duty T5 handles 330 ft-lb of torque - a significant upgrade over the standard 300 ft-lb rating. The World Class internals include carbon fiber 3-4 synchro rings, improved synchronizers and bearings throughout, plus a Cobra-style pocket bearing for enhanced input shaft support. The steel front bearing retainer adds durability where standard units use aluminum. At just 75 lbs dry, this remains the most compact overdrive manual transmission for space-constrained builds.

    The 2.95 first gear delivers strong launches while the deep 0.63 overdrive drops engine RPM significantly on the highway - reducing wear, lowering temperatures, and improving fuel economy. An optional 0.73 overdrive is available for builders who want an even taller fifth gear. The transmission is configured for Ford mechanical speedometer operation with the included 7-tooth speedo gear and uses a GM-style transmission mount (MD-604-1102, sold separately).

    Prime candidates include 1960-1965 Falcons, hot rods, street rods, trucks of all years, kit cars, and Shelby 289 Cobras where traditional rear shift placement creates packaging or ergonomic problems. This transmission requires 2.75 quarts of Dexron III ATF. An optional offset shifter is available to move shifter position back up to 2 inches if needed - contact sales for details.
