At just 75 lbs dry weight, you get 5-speed capability without the bulk of larger transmissions.
This Z-specification unit represents a significant upgrade over the original equipment T5s found in '83-'93 Mustangs. Where the '83-'84 non-World Class units ran a 2.95 first with 0.63 overdrive but suffered from weaker synchronizers, and the '85-'93 World Class versions switched to a 3.35 first with 0.68 overdrive, the Super Duty combines the best of both worlds: the preferred 2.95/0.73 gear set with World Class internals including carbon fiber synchro rings on gears 1-4, tapered carrier bearings, and main needle bearings. The steel front bearing retainer and Cobra-style pocket bearing eliminate common failure points that plagued earlier designs.
The 2.95 first gear provides strong acceleration off the line, while the deep 0.73 overdrive significantly reduces highway RPM - cutting noise, heat, and wear while improving fuel economy. This transmission safely handles 330 ft-lb of torque and is suitable for street cars up to 450 horsepower on DOT-approved tires. It serves as a direct replacement for 1983-1993 V8 Mustangs and is ideal behind any small-block Ford engine, or as an upgrade for inline-four and six-cylinder applications. Requires 2.75 quarts of ATF Dexron III fluid.
