Description
The TREMEC Super Duty T5 delivers World Class 5-speed performance in the most compact package available from TREMEC. At just 75 lbs dry, this transmission fits where larger units cannot - making it the go-to choice for classic car conversions, hot rods, and tight engine bays. The rear shift configuration with your choice of 1.650" or 2.150" forward offset accommodates a variety of chassis tunnel and console configurations.
This Z-spec T5 is built to a higher standard than the factory Mustang T5s it replaces. While the 1985-93 V8 Mustang World Class T5 ran a 3.35 first gear with .68 overdrive, the Super Duty uses a 2.95 first gear for improved torque handling and a deeper .63 overdrive for better highway cruising. The result is a transmission rated at 330 ft-lb torque capacity - suitable for streetcars up to 450 hp on DOT-approved tires. Carbon fiber synchronizer rings in 1st through 4th gears engage faster and outlast traditional bronze rings, while the steel front bearing retainer and Cobra-style pocket input bearing add durability where the factory aluminum retainer would flex.
The World Class designation means this T5 uses tapered carrier bearings and main needle bearings throughout - the same design that earned the platform its reputation for smooth shifting and long service life. The deep .63 overdrive drops highway RPMs substantially, reducing engine temperatures, extending drivetrain life, and delivering noticeable fuel economy improvements. Ideal retrofit for classic Ford small-block applications converting from 4-speed or automatic transmissions.
