Description
The TREMEC Super Duty T5 solves a common problem in classic car conversions: dropping a modern 5-speed into tight engine bays where larger transmissions simply won't fit. At just 75 pounds dry, this is TREMEC's most compact transmission - yet it handles 330 lb-ft of torque and is suitable for street cars making up to 450 horsepower on DOT-approved tires.
The "Z-spec" designation (part number 1352-0251) identifies this as TREMEC's heavy-duty aftermarket T5, a significant upgrade over the weaker T5s originally found in '83-'93 Mustangs. The World Class design uses tapered carrier bearings rather than bushings, providing superior durability under load. Carbon fiber synchronizer rings on the first four gears deliver smooth, positive engagement even under aggressive driving. The steel front bearing retainer and Cobra-style pocket bearing eliminate the weak points that plagued earlier T5 variants.
This rear position front socket configuration offers 1" or 1.5" forward offset flexibility, placing the shifter between 16.75" and 17.25" from the bellhousing face - ideal for classic car conversions where the original shifter location needs to be maintained. The 2.95 first gear provides strong take-off performance, while the taller 0.63 overdrive reduces engine temperatures and drivetrain wear during highway cruising. The T5z is the best transmission for retrofits of 4-speed or automatics in classic cars and hot rods with a small block.
Direct replacement for 1983-1993 V8 Mustangs and ideal behind any small-block Ford engine or as an upgrade for inline-four and six-cylinder applications. The 10-spline input matches most small-block Ford applications, while the 28-spline output provides robust driveline connection.
