T5 Specific information about oil


Tremec T5 

This transmission requires just under 3-Quarts of oil.

We recommend that the fluid in a TREMEC T-5 transmission should be changed after its initial 500 miles.
The fluid should be changed every 30,000 miles after that

 

CAUTION
Do not mix different brands or types of transmission lubricant in any transmission.

DO NOT USE GEAR OIL IN THE T5 TRANSMISSION SINCE THIS MAY DAMAGE THE BLOCKING RING MATERIAL.

 

APPROVED LUBRICANT.
Most T5 transmission models use DexronÒ II automatic transmission fluid.  – Click the link below for more information on this.
AMSOIL OE Synthetic Automatic Transmission Fluid 

Perfect for:  T5 5-speed transmissions  (about 3 quarts).

First Fill

a. Remove fill plug (2). 
b. Add approved lubricant. (see above)
c. When the transmission is full, the lubricant will just drip out fill the plug opening.
d. Install fill plug and torque to 20 lb-ft (27 Nm).

 

CHANGING LUBRICANT.

Proceed as follows
a. Wipe drain and fill plugs (1 and 2) and surrounding areas clean.
b. Place a suitable container under the transmission.
c. Remove drain plug (1).
d. Remove the fill plug (2).
e. Allow all lubricant to drain.
f. Install drain plug (1) and torque to 20 lb-ft (27 Nm).
g. Add lubricant Through fill plug opening until lubricant just begins to drip back out of the opening.
h. Install fill plug and torque to 20 lb-ft (27 Nm).

 

 

Things to remember

If you remove your T5 from your vehicle before it comes out please plug the tailshaft bearing seal.

You can do this by leaving the Slip yoke in or with a rag or towel to prevent unwanted leaks as you remove your transmission.
