VIDEO: TKO-600 5-speed manual transmission install in a 1969 Chevelle
Overdrive transmissions provide many benefits to longevity and fuel consumption, and they are more fun to shift than automatics. The V8 Speed & Resto Shop crew installs a Tremec TKO-600 from Modern Driveline complete with a hydraulic throwout bearing assembly for easy action and an MDL clutch for positive grab behind the big block Chevy V8 in a 1969 Chevelle. The Tremec TKO 5-speed manual transmission handles 600 pound-feet of torque and the Modern Driveline kit puts the shifter in the original position on our ‘69 Chevelle.
The 1969 Chevelle
V8 Speed & Resto Shop had taken on this 1969 Chevelle as a project car in the past. At that time it was outfitted with a TH400 automatic.
After driving it for a while, the customer decided that it would be a better driving car with a manual transmission. Some of the specs of the original build are:
- 462 C.I. V8
- MSD IGNITION
- EDELBROCK INTAKE
- HOLLEY CARB
- HOOKER HEADERS
- 12-BOLT 3.42:1 POSI REAR
- MAGNAFLOW 3″ EXHAUST
- 17″ ROCKET RACING WHEELS
- BFG TIRES
- OPGI RESTO PARTS
- TMI LEATHER INTERIOR
- STANDOX CARBON FLASH PAINT
- RED SS STRIPE
