Modern Driveline T56 kit for this 1969 Camaro install featured on V8TV – Part 1
In this two part video series the V8TV crew rebuilds a 1969 Chevrolet Camaro from a stock-type restoration into a Zl-1 inspired fire-breathing supercharged Pro-Touring machine. Plans for the build include a GM LSA Supercharged 6.2 liter V8 backed by a T-56 Magnum transmission from Modern Driveline. The car will roll on Detroit Speed & Engineering suspension, Forgeline Wheels, and Toyo R888 tires, stopped by hydroboosted Wilwood brake system.
T56 Magnum Install
In this installment of the “Lou’s Change” 1969 Camaro build, the V8 Speed and Resto shop crew is installing the Tremec T-56 Magnum 6-speed manual transmission into the ’69 Camaro. Although this car was originally a 4-speed manual, the modern 6-speed requires some different steps to install. The T-56 Magnum is the factory transmission behind the 640 HP Corvette ZR1, so we know it will be up to the task in our Camaro. We used a complete kit from Modern Driveline after speaking with Bruce Couture about the considerations, including the size of the Toyo Proxes R888 tires and the rear gear ratio of the Currie 9+ rear axle. The Modern Driveline kit came with the transmission, flywheel, clutch, bell housing, shifter, electronic connections, fluid, hydraulic master cylinder, and release bearing. We had to make some modifications to the Camaro’s floor, and then we built a custom transmission cross member and used a Detroit Speed & Engineering hydraulic clutch master cylinder bracket to mount that part cleanly… This is the first part of the install.
Part 2 finishes the install of the T56 Magnum.
