    Description

The factory mechanical clutch linkage on 1968-1979 C3 Corvettes is a maintenance headache - Z-bar pivots wear, firewall bushings deteriorate, and clutch feel becomes vague and inconsistent over time. This complete hydraulic clutch master kit eliminates the entire mechanical linkage and replaces it with smooth, maintenance-free hydraulic operation that delivers the same clutch feel mile after mile.

The heart of this kit is a Tilton 78 Series master cylinder featuring billet aluminum construction with proprietary low-friction coatings. The rear spherical bearing mount and one-piece piston/pushrod design eliminates side thrust into the cylinder bore - a common cause of binding and uneven wear in pivot-mount cylinders. This engineering delivers consistent, repeatable clutch engagement whether you are rowing through gears on a canyon road or sitting in traffic.

The included billet aluminum frame bracket mounts directly to the original 4-speed manual transmission chassis mounting points without modification. Unlike universal brackets that can flex under pedal pressure, this bracket provides a rigid mount that transfers all your pedal effort directly into clutch actuation. The 3/4-inch bore master cylinder is specifically stroked for factory C3 pedal geometry, so your original clutch pedal works without modification.

The kit includes both reservoir supply and slave cylinder lines with -4AN fittings for secure, leak-free connections. Note: This kit requires an original manual transmission frame or the addition of original Z-bar mounting brackets to an automatic frame. Slave cylinder sold separately. Pair with Tilton internal hydraulic release bearings for a complete hydraulic clutch solution. Made in the USA with lifetime technical support from MDL.

    FAQs

    Q. Why won't my transmission go into gear? A. Check your 'Master Cylinder throw distance, it should be 1.4". You may have to adjust your clutch pedal height in the vehicle. Q. Why is my pedal bottoming out ? A. Adjust your clevis and your pedal, balance the amount of adjustment you need between the two until your pedal does not bottom out anymore. Q. My pedal feels spongy and the slave cylinder does move right away. A. You have air trapped in the system, re-bleed the system again, follow the bleed instructions, or see the video on bleeding hydraulics on this page under the Video Tab Q. What type of fluid do I use in my clutch hydraulics? A. DOT 3 or 4 brake fluid only in this application. There is no need for high temp brake fluid. Q. Will this kit work a stock clutch pedal? A. Yes, it will fit an original factory pedal and an OE reproduction aftermarket pedal.
