4.6L V8 3650 five-speed to Magnum XL Six Speed.
Initially, the 4.6L was paired with a Tremec TR3650 single overdrive five-speed with a semi-remote shifter.
Limited in its torque rating and shifter configurations, Tremec developed the Magnum XL based on the TR6060.
The Magnum XL is a double-overdrive transmission that easily tolerates up to 700 lb-ft. of torque, delivers unbelievable sophistication. The Magnum XL extended-length tail section is designed to eliminate the clumsy ‘semi-remote shifter lending to crisp, positive shifts.
The XL comes complete with an SFI-approved steel bell-housing designed to mate with Ford Modular V8 engines, a Mustang-specific cross-member, and an OE-quality transmission mount. MDL rounds the kit with 26-spline clutches, a one-piece driveshaft, and supporting electrics and harnesses. The Magnum XL is a great kit, and bolts right in.

For those looking to improve the shifting characteristics and not miss a shift under load, the direct mounted Magnum XL with an SFI 6.1 certified scatter shield is the answer. With is 26 spline input shaft, the XL replaces the TR6060 with a simple one-piece driveshaft swap. Rated at 700ft/lbs of torque, the Magnum XL handles the power of even the most hopped-up GT 500 and dishes it out.
